A pearl is a hard, glistening object produced within the soft tissue of a living Mollusk. A Pearl is composed of the same Calcium Carbonate as the shell of the Mollusk. It is deposited in concentric layers around some form of irritant to the Mollusk. Pearls are associated as the Birthstone for June, along with Alexandrite and Moonstone. They show a hardness of 2.5-4.5 0n the Mohs scale. As Jewelry, Pearls are Delicate, and Care should be taken while wearing and in their storage
