Opal is a Hydrated Amorphous form of Silica. It is found the fissures of almost any kind of rock. Opal can be from clear, milky white to quite dark overall, showing a wide variety of color play from within, including Blues, Greens, and Reds. Reds being the rarest. Categorized primarily as Crystaline, Black and Boulder Opals. This stone measures 5.5-6.0 on the Mohs hardness scale, which makes it best suited for Pendants, Necklaces, & Earrings. If set into a Ring, the Ring should be designed with Stone Protection in Mind. Opal is associated with as October's Birthstone and the stone given to celebrate the 14th Wedding Anniversary.
